The students of RGNUL, Punjab have filed a complaint before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)
The students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab have filed a complaint before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the ‘unjust’ and ‘disproportionate’ fees being charged by the University Admiration during COVID 19 lockdown.
The students in their complaint have stated that despite COVID 19 Pandemic and the representations made by the concerned students, the RGNUL administration went ahead and notified the requisition of full fees for the upcoming semester which is Rs. 1,13,500, on June 27 payable latest by July 10, post which the late fee will be charged as notified starting from Rs. 5000.
The students have alleged that such demand of fees in the present crisis is “out-rightly cruel, unjust, disproportionate.” It has further been stated that there has been enormous economic stress caused by the pandemic and the extended lockdown on their families and due to the premature closure of campus and the subsequent declaration of Summer Vacations, a major portion of fees already paid for the semesters remain unutilized.
Moreover the requisition of such a hefty amount at such short notice period has made them economically vulnerable adding to their problems.
The students have hence stated that for the above mentioned reasons they are not willing to pay any fees apart from the tuition fees.
The students have urged the Commission to intervene in the matter and to take appropriate decision urgently in the best interest of the students.
