Supreme Court has given permission to open three Jain temples in Mumbai
During the hearing on Friday, Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde said that we allow the opening of the temple of Jain Samaj located in Dadar, Byculla and Chembur and allow Paryshan Puja. The Supreme Court has given permission to open three temples of Jain society conditionally and perform Paryushan Puja on 22 and 23 August.
The bench was hearing two petitions filed by members representing the Jain community from the city. The petitioners had seeking permission to enter their temples during the eight-day Paryushan festival.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Surendra Tavade said the current situation was not impulsive for opening of places of worship. The plea has dismissed by the High court on mentioning the ground that the current situation was not good it can affect numerous people so we can not allow to open any place of worship .
However, the Supreme Court clearly stated that no other temple will be allowed to conduct worship or any event. Permission to worship in a Jain temple will not be made the basis for seeking permission for organizing Ganapati festival or any other religious ceremony.
The Supreme Court clearly stated that we should make it clear that our order in this case is limited to the prayers offered in the three temples of Dadar, Byculla and Chembur related to the petitioner trust and not to any other trust or any other temple.,
The Supreme Court asked the temple management to give undertaking that they will follow the guidelines of Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) and the government regarding the corona. The court criticised the Maharashtra Government which had opposed the opening of the Temples. The court said that the government has allowed malls and other economic activities to open, but not Temples.
