Rajya Sabha passes Bills to reduce salaries of MPs and ministers

In wake of Covid-19 pandemic, preparations have been made to cut the salary of the Prime Minister, ministers and MPs. The Bills were moved to reduce the salaries and allowances of MPs and allowances of Ministers for one year, to amplify the financial resources of the centre to challenge the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, a bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Prahlad Joshi on introduced the Ministers’ Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and the Members of Parliament’s Salaries, Allowances and Pension Bill (2020) in the Rajya Sabha.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said that he was moving the bill on behalf of the Union Home Ministry Amit Shah.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said in the Rajya Sabha, ‘The Centre is working on all methods to control this nationwide epidemic and provide relief.

Under this amendment, there will be a 30 per cent reduction in the salary and allowances of MPs, ministers from April 1, 2020 to March 2021. All MPs unanimously passed this bill.

Subsequently, Prahlad Joshi introduced the bill in the Rajya Sabha, which calls for a reduction in the salary of MPs. Should also think about it and even at a salary of 1 rupee per month

However, he said that the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division (MPLADS) fund should not be diverted away from MPs, as it allows leaders to work in their constituencies.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha introduced the Homeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill introduced by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan passed in 2020.
