RAJASTHAN HC TAKES SUO MOTO COGNIZANCE ON MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF MIGRANT BIRDS

The Rajasthan HC while taking Suo Moto cognizance of death of migratory birds in the Sambhar Lake has directed the State Government to remove the carcasses and conduct post mortem of the dead migratory birds to find out the reason behind their deaths.

The Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice Satish Kumar Sharma has further sought a report on the State’s policy to prevent unnatural deaths of migratory and local birds in the Sambhar Lake.

The bench also directed that the State Government to set up a temporary nursery near the Lake which is to be used for the treatment of injured and sick birds.

Advocate Nitin Jain, the Amicus Curiae further informed the bench that incidents of death of migratory birds near the Sambhar Lake has been taking place for past few days. But no action is being taken by concerned departments. And also there is no nursery available nearby for the treatment of injured and sick birds, the birds are being sent to nurseries which are located several kilometers away from the lake.

Now, the matter will be heard on July 3, 2020.
