PROTECTION OF SENIOR CITIZENS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC :DELHI HC ISSUES NOTICE
Cases of corona virus are rising day by day in Delhi and so the safety of senior citizens is a major concern in this global pandemic as they form most vulnerable population to the virus . so therefore for the protection of senior citizens the Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan has issued notice to both the Centre as well as the Delhi Government.
The plea filed by Mr. Gaurav Gambhir focused on directions to be given to central and stage government to provider senior citizens with banking , health, grocery and basic needs at their doorsteps and also asked to allot a emergency number for them in case of any health emergency or need of any check ups .Petitioner also demands for early check ups of senior citizens and the petitioner also presented proof that senior citizen are more prone to virus dues to low immunity.
Narrating the consequences and problems faced by the senator citizens the petition reads : ‘Many of them are living alone while their children settled abroad with no one to help them in this unprecedented difficult situation. Many have difficulty in walking and preparing food for themselves. In some cases their children who are living in the same city are not able to help their old parents due to the lockdown.’.
Petitioner also advises that if we want to protect senior are group section from fatal virus we must isolate them and provide them with basic needs so that they do not have to come out seeking things.
