Plea filed in SC for removal of words ‘Socialist’ and Secular’ from Constitution’s Preamble.
Both the words ‘Secular’ and ‘Socialist’ were added in preamble through section 2(a) of 42nd amendment in 1976.
Now a PIL has been filed with the intention of removal of these words from preamble of India’s Constitution.
Grounds for filing PIL are that is against India’s cultural and historical theme i.e. the oldest civilization of world, great republic of Bharat etc.
It has also been termed as anti ethical.
Further the plea read as follows that inclusion of these words also leads to violation of freedom of speech and expression granted under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India, also it is in contradiction to right to freedom of Religion enumerated in Article 25 of our Constitution.
