On Whose Opinion Lockdown Relaxed : Calcutta HC Seeks Response From Centre & State Govt
Calcutta High Court has directed the centre and the State Government to file a report providing the details as to whose opinion was sought before relaxing the guidelines for COVID 19 lockdown.
A petition filed by Advocate Anindya Sundar Das was being heard by a bench of Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan, where he was seeking necessary steps to ensure that markets, offices and other establishments in the state function under the watch of the police.
The petitioner has contended that the Government has put the lives of the general public at stake by relaxing the guidelines. The petitioner also said that no surveillance has been observed in many district of the state.
The petitioner also prayed that the migrants who have came back to the state should be kept under strict surveillance of the police since the number of COVID 19 cases are increasing day by day in the state due to migrants.
The petitioner has further alleged failure on the part of State Government to implement the lockdown due to which people have not been following social distancing norms.
The bench directed the Central and State Government to file their affidavits by june 11.
