‘NLSIU VC part of Facebook board to review content’.

Prof Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Vice-Chancellor of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), has been selected as one of the 20 members of Facebook’s Oversight Board, that will address content moderation issues.

The board is an independent organisation that will make binding decisions on what content Facebook and Instagram should allow or remove, keeping freedom of expression and human rights in mind. Users will be able to appeal to the board in cases where the two social networking sites have removed their content.

Prof Sudhir, who had taken charge as head of the law school in September 2019, said: “As someone committed to freedom of expression and human rights, I am glad the Oversight Board has been set up, which will focus on bringing greater clarity and transparency to how online content is moderated and ensuring Facebook and Instagram users across the world understand how decisions are made about their communities.”
