My conscience does not permit me to participate in any farewell function : Justice Arun Mishra
Supreme Court Justice Arun Mishra has denied to attend the farewell ceremony to be organized by the bar association. He is retiring from court on 2 September. He said that he would unable to attend the farewell ceremony due to grievous conditions caused by the coronavirus.
Justice Arun Mishra became a judge in the Supreme Court on 7 July 2014. Justice Arun Kumar Mishra has apportioned formerly as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and the Rajasthan High Court. He has also apportioned as Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Mishra’s father late Hargovind Mishra was also a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Justice Mishra worked as part-time Lecturer in Law from 1986 to 1993. He was a Member of the Faculty of Law at Jiwaji University, Gwalior from 1991 to 1996.
They are about to give several decisions, including the deadline for payment of AGR to the telecom companies, and punishment in the contempt case to lawyer Prashant Bhushan. The Supreme Court Bar Association and the Confederation of Indian Bar met him and invited him for the farewell ceremony on 2 September.
Justice Mishra wrote to the institutions, I am grateful for inviting me to the farewell ceremony. I have always considered the bar to be the mother of the judiciary and I would be happy to attend the function.
He further stated in the letter that ‘At present, the situation in the whole world remains critical due to Corona pandemic in such a situation, my conscience does not allow me to participate in the farewell ceremony. He assured that whenever the conditions were normal, he would come to them.
