LAWYERS NEED TO ENGAGE WITH SC JUDGES FOR POST LOCKDOWN COURT FUNCTIONING: EX SCBA CHIEF VIKAS SINGH
Amid the infighting going on between President of SCBA Dushyant Dave and Ashok former secretary SCBA which has tarnished the image of the lawyers’ body, Mr. Vikas Singh, Senior Advocate and Former President of bar has expressed his anguish over the tussle and affairs of the SC Bar Association.
Mr. Singh in his letter written on Saturday to Executive Members said that there can never be a call for an EGM to remove any elected officer bearer within the terms of the year for which he/she is elected merely because some members feel that the officer bearer would be removed. He also said that it was completely improper on part of the secretary to call for the EGM for the said purpose.
Ashok Arora was suspended from the position of secretary in a resolution passed on 8th May 2020. The decision was taken by the majority and President Dushyant Dave had abstained from voting on the same. Mr. Singh on the removal of Ashok Arora said that if the general body is not empowered to remove an office bearer duly elected at the AGM, the EC definitely cannot have the authority to remove from office unless there are accusations of moral turpitude of financial crisis.
Mr. Vikas Singh rather from the infighting also highlighted the manner in which the SCBA has decided to help the needy lawyers amid nationwide lockdown.
Mr. Singh also highlighted that the important issue confronting the SCBA is regard to functioning of Supreme Court post lockdown. He stressed that the lawyers need to engage with the Judges to work out and arrangement during the subsistence of pandemic COVID-19.
