We have General Category status by the United Nations, and registered with Niti Aayog (NGO Darpan) and also registered with CSR hub of TISS. The South India office of OISCA functions in Calicut, since 1985. The prime emphasis of the activities of OISCA is to impart knowledge and to create awareness in the key areas of environmental protection and youth empowerment activities for colleges and schools students. We have Love Green Club in more than 1775 schools and Save Green clubs in 150 colleges. Apart from Environment protection activities we also undertake Rural Development and Skill Development Programmes for Youth and women. As a recognition to these activities, Govt. of India blessed OISCA by conferring the “INDIRA PRIYADARSHINI VRIKSHA MITHRA AWARD-” in the year 1998. At present we have 107 chapters in South India with more than 5000 members.
Since the inception of OISCA in South India, Training classes in fabric painting, jewellery making, hand embroidery, crochet etc are being conducted for ladies and school children at OISCA Youth Center. These were all a part of our women empowerment programs. Since 2007 onwards we are running OISCA Kalakshethra, a school to revive our languishing art, the mural painting. Classes are given in mural painting for ladies for the past eight years. Hundreds of women were given training in mural painting. We conduct exhibitions to help these ladies to market their products.
We also had set up an Electronic Training Center for women in 2002 with the support of NABARD to train educated ladies from Economically weak families. It was a five-year project and training program was given in the assembling of inverters, UPS, Electronic Chokes etc.
In addition to this, we also undertake Aids control projects of KSACS, Drinking water and sanitation projects of KRWSA, Herbal Garden Development projects of NMPB, Training programmes of Ministry of Minority Affairs for women in minority group, and Training of women artisans under AHVY project of Ministry of Textiles.
