Hathras gang-rape: Plea in SC for CBI probe, transfer of trial to Delhi
A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Hathras gang-rape case. The petition has sought a CBI or SIT to investigate the case. The PIL has been filed by Delhi residents Satyama Dubey, Vikas Thackeray, Rudra Pratap Yadav and Saurabh Yadav.
Along with this, there has been a demand to transfer the case from Hathras to Delhi and speedy trial of the case.
The petition has demanded that the present or retired judges of the Supreme Court or High Court should supervise the investigation of the case.
With this, CM Adityanath Yogi has announced assistance for the victim’s family. Along with financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the victim’s family, a house and a member of the family has been declared a junior assistant job.
The trial in the fast track court and the investigation has been allowed by the 3-member committee of the SIT.
Earlier to this, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) wrote to Chief Justice of India SA Bobde to nudge the Supreme Court to take suo moto cognizance of the unpleasant gang rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district.
A 19-year-old girl was gang-raped in Hathras on September 14. The victim succumbed to her injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital yesterday. The victim’s body reached the village late at night and her funeral pyre was burnt amidst heavy protests from the villagers.
