Delhi University students move up to Chief Justice of Delhi HC concerning the regulation of online examination amid Lockdown
Earlier as presented by UGC guidelines it was stated that the colleges and universities could adopt any method for conducting online examinations Amid lockdown period to maintain social distancing as prescribed to counter the disastrous effects of the Novel coronavirus COVID-19.
In regard to this the students and teachers were of the opinion that online examinations are not feasible as students come from vastly diverse socio-economic backgrounds and may not have tools or equipments to counter such examinations i.e. computers and internet connectivity.
Delhi University was of the slant of conducting online open book examinations concerning of which the students of the university took a charge of addressing a letter to the Chief Justice of Delhi HC, DN Patel asserting the bitter truth students revealed that the Universities throughout the country are unfit to conduct online examinations. They even addressed that many were unable to benefit from the online classes already being undertaken by the University and online examination of any form is blatantly unfair and demanding for students.
Posting the differences in one’s life style the students opined of having various logistical and psychological ideas to deal with at one’s home. Female students are considered to be heavily involved in the household activities, disabled students shall require scribes, there are some students who have Sick family members as well to take care of.
The decision of conducting online examinations might be beneficial for the students who are having a sustainable background with means and privileges but the decision is highly unfair for the majority students who are lack such adequate resources and privileges. Students from Jammu and Kashmir do not have access to a running 4G internet connectivity, organization of such examinations would lead to a great discomfort for such students would be an obstacle of being furnished with the fair chance of appearing in the examinations.
The students visited with a physical copy of the letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Delhi HC at his residence from there students were directed to approach the Delhi HC where the Registrar directed them to instate it online, since then 100’s of email have been registered concerning the matter.
