Delhi HC Issue Notice to plea challenging UPSC preliminary examination notice
Today, the Delhi High Court issued notice for a petition which challenged the preliminary examination notice issued by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to direct recruitment to 24 civil services of the Union of India under case Sambhavana vs. Union of India.
The bench comprising of Justice DN Patel and Prateek Jalan hearing the plea to “registered society for the disabled”. The preliminary examination is supposed to take place on 4th October 2020 as per the notice.
The petitioner plea brings light on the examination notice which completely neglect and ignore the mandatory minimum reservation scheme for the disabled under Section 34 of the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. It also states that the government is under an obligation to appoint or reverse 4% of its total vacancies with benchmark disabilities. The petitioner prayed to issue directive to cancel the preliminary examination notice issued by UPSC as it violates the constitutional right to an equal opportunity.
The matter will be heard next on August 31st 2020.
