Neegro term used for an African resident is a shameful remark Over The Prestige of India, High Court:
In matter of NDPS the accused who was an African resident was termed as neegro as the Punjab police had written his name in such a manner in the police reports which was chastised by the Punjab and Haryana Highcourt and criticized the actions of the police officials. High Court stated that to get rid of such a racist comment Mahatma Gandhi had to fight for two decades.
Court orders directed the DGP to take strict actions and regulate that search words are not used in any manner:
African resident to be stated as Neegro in such official documents is a shameful remark over the image of India on an international platform.
In matter of NDPS while hearing of the case High Court stated that the use of word Neegro is considered a very immodest remark all over the world. The use of such a word in official documents of court is a shameful remark over The Prestige of India. The thought is like every black person is a drug smuggler which is the worst thinking capacity of an individual. High could stated that the colour doesn’t have any link to the crime.
Investigation officer is to determine that there is no inequality on the basis of colour.
Justice Rajiv Narain Raina directed the DGP of Punjab to submit the action reports over the matter. In addition to it the court ordered to regulate that such words are not used in challans and FIR on the basis of colour or any other racist remarks by the police officials.
