1. Delhi HC issues notice in plea seeking removal of illegal groups from social media platforms for safety and security of children
The Delhi High Court yesterday issued notice in a plea seeking a direction to the Central Government to direct social media platforms to remove illegal groups for the safety and security of children in cyberspace.
2. Our collective failure towards migrants
Till very recently, most were unaware of a statute titled the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979. At the time the Act was introduced, these ‘daan’ (those towards whom charity is done) labourers were recruited by contractors to work on large construction projects with no fixed working hours. Besides being ill-treated, often, they weren’t even paid.
3. Lawyers chambers in Delhi HC to re-open from May 21 in odd-even fashion
With effect from May 21, 2020, lawyers chambers in the Delhi High Court shall open in two shifts, in a phased manner.
While odd numbered chambers have been allowed to open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, even numbered chambers can function on the remaining days of the week, except Sundays.
4. RGNUL students write to P&H HC Chief Justice, Punjab CM and others seeking requesting fee relief in light of COVID-19 crisis
A letter has been addressed to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the State’s Chief Minister and other concerned authorities urging for the grant of fee relief for students of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing financial difficulties.
5. Bois Locker Room: The role of Intermediaries in regulation of content
The “Bois Locker Room” incident recently caused a wave of outrage across the entire nation.
The incident came to light when multiple screenshots of Instagram group chats were leaked, thereby exposing the group where images of girls, including minors, were shared, and girls were objectified and shamed using offensive and vulgar language. There were also alleged comments and discussions to commit heinous and gory crimes against their modesty, including threats of sexual violence.
