DELHI HC SEEKS RESPONSES OF CENTRE AND DELHI POLICE ON PETITION FOR PAYMENT OF SALARIES AMID LOCKDOWN
The Delhi HC On Friday (15/05/20) has issued a notice to the Centre and the Delhi Police on Petition filed seeking implementation of Ministry Of Home Affairs Circular directing employers to provide full wages to its employees during the lockdown period due to outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic.
The court passed its order on a Petition filed by 10 employees of the Venus Rent a car Pvt. Ltd., through Advocate Satyam Singh Rajput and Advocate Amit Kumar Sharma who alleged that private ltd companies has not provided wages of the Petitioners and despite the clear direction to the MHA to not to cut the wages during the lockdown period. Hence, the Petitioners seeking directions to the Central Government to issue an order for the payment of wages.
The Advocates also alleged that the company was deducting provident fund contributions from the salaries of Petitioners.
The employees of the company further submitted that in their Petition that they have been left to survive on the mercy of fate in this lockdown to the acts and needs of the company.
A Single-Judge bench of Justice Navin Chawla of Delhi HC while conducting the hearing through video conferencing has also directed the Delhi Police to file a status report within 10 days regarding the issue.
